When creating this model, Danielle and I were interested in merging several of our ideas. First we created the two sketches to guide the form of our cones. We decided that each of the four circles for the schools should be tangent to the center, common-space circle. This way, we would still be able to create overlaps between two cones next to each other, but the surface of the center cone would have walls adjacent to each of the outer cones. We also wanted the circles to overlap a maximum of about 1/3 of the larger circle. We also tried to create angled cones in order to either direct sunlight (by making the top opening closer to the south) or increase the surface area on the side of the cone facing the sun (by making the top opening is closer to the north). The sizes of the circles on the top sketch were also important to us because we wanted to keep the varying heights of the cones as we had determined in our terrace model. As a result, the size of the circle on the top sketch had to be larger if the cone is shorter and smaller if the cone is taller.
When creating the connect curves, we thought some about how the program would be placed in the space. For example, we connected the first and second floors in order to create an angled ceiling for the auditorium.
