Further Experiements with Cones

Here I tried making the cones into 5ft thick solids. Since my cones overlapped the site boundaries, I used a pocket to remove the overlap that would exceed the site limits. This creates an interesting effect due to the intersecting geometries.

Using connect curve to create some surfaces beween cones in order to start defining the common space between them.

5 cones - Each of the circles on the bottom sketch (these define the bottom of the cones) are tangent to both circles next to it and tangent to the center circle. The circles defining the top of these cones are all tangent to the center circle but not to eachother.

In this version, the top circles are tangent to eachother and the bottom circles have points that are coincident, allowing the bottom circles to overlap.

In the top sketch, the circles are tangent to the two circles closest to them. This results in a different type of controlled overlap.

Above: Bottom View
In this version, the bottom of the cones are controlled by two sets of tangent circles. This allows the circles to overlap but in a controlled way.

  1. These are looking great. I think you should try a few options where the thickness of the cone is the width of a classroom. Maybe 20' thick.
